The State Archives of Latvia (Latvijas
Valsts arhīvs - abbreviated to LVA) is an institution forming part of the state archival system of Latvia,
subordinate to the Directorate General of State Archives.
State Archives of Latvia is the largest
archive, supervising and accumulating the records of state and local government
institutions of the Republic of Latvia, records of Lawcourts, Public prosecutors
departments and Nongovernmental organizations. State Archives of Latvia ensures the
preservation and utilisation of records of history of Latvia ( from 1940 up to the present
day).
In accordance with the Law on Archives of 26th March 1991,
the State Archives of Latvia is a legal entity. The regulation on State Archives of Latvia
was affirmed at 1993,and alterations have been made at 2001.
The Archives consists of 12 departments
with a staff of 137 officers.
